Styling tools such as, Curling Irons, Straighteners/Flat Irons, and Barrel Wavers can get very expensive. Prices can be found for up to $250. Isn’t it worth maximizing the life of your styling tools? This is a two-part series that shows how to extend the life of all types of styling tools.

We often overlook the electrical cord when we care for our styling tool. Manufacturers have found that the biggest reason they have returns, on their styling tools, is because the cord gets damaged. This could be for one of two reasons; either the cord melts from the heat of the tool or the cord shorts out from being wrapped tightly around the unit. One of the initial recommendations of the manufacturers of styling tools is to protect the cord.

An enormous side-benefit of the Hotty Hoody - Cool Sleeve is that it protects your cord cord in two ways, thereby extending the life of the product.

First, the cord can be wrapped around the circumference of the Hotty Hoody - Cool Sleeve which has a much wider girth than the tool. This benefit means that the wider wrap around the protective device, as opposed to the tool handle, greater reduces the likelihood that the wires will short.

The second benefit is the heat protective aspect of the Hotty Hoody - Cool Sleeve, which keeps the electrical cord away from the heated device. This prevents the cord from melting, which obviously shortens or terminates the product lifespan.

These two benefits, alone, may add years to the life of your product.

Have you had problems with your electrical cord? If so, please share your experience with us. :-)

If you’re like me, you probably take your styling tool with you, when you go to the gym or on trips. The great thing about a styling tool is that you can take it wherever, whenever. In that way, we can always be our most beautiful selves. The only problem with packing it up in a bag is that we expose the unit to bumps, bruises and breaks.

With the prices of heated styling tools ranging from $20 - $250, I want to protect that investment. I’m sure that you do too. Okay, by now you know what’s coming next . . . the Hotty Hoody - Cool Sleeve protects your styling device, by surrounding it with a cushiony (is that a word?) sheath.

When you pack up your styling tool to go on a trip, just remember that baggage handlers tend to throw bags around. By using the Hotty Hoody - Cool Sleeve, you will engulf the tool in a cushion that will protect it from bumps and bruises.

We love our styling tools, don’t we? Unfortunately, they can make our hair dry when used on the highest heat settings. There are several approaches to providing first aid for your hair.

The first suggestion that I have is to use lower heat settings, if your styling tools has a heat control, as hair gets close to drying. The higher heat settings are fine when your hair is wet, but can damage your hair as it drys. It’s really counter productive to style your hair, only to damage it and make it look worse in the long run.

Another solution for dry hair is to use silk pillowcases. I know this sounds crazy, but the silk allows your hair to flow easily as you sleep.

There are multiple corrective products on the market. You can find many products that claim to correct hair damage, but I can’t vouch for most of them, since I haven’t tried them all. The one product that I have used consistently throughout the years (I’m not mentioning how many years) is Kolestrol. The is a deep conditioning product that should be used like a conditioner.

I suggest that you wash your hair and then towel-dry thoroughly. At this point, you’ll be able to apply the Kolestrol in sections. Leave the Kolestrol on your hair for 20-30 minutes and then rinse. You may need to repeat this treatment every week for a few weeks until you see the results that satisfy you.

If all else fails, you may need to cut your hair and let it grow back. Proper prevention, as with the heat settings and silk pillowcases, should prevent a situation as drastic as this option.

Please let me know if you have other suggestions. :-) We’re all in this together!

There’s a mystery that hotel management across America hasn’t been able to solve. They’re looking for the “Great Towel Thief”!

How could one person be responsible for all those missing towels? The obvious answer is that it’s not one person, but many women with hot styling tools. Women borrow (ahem) towels, to protect their clothing, as they pack their heated tools when checking out. Or they run out of the room with a hot styling tool in hand.

Most heated styling tools take several minutes to cool off and we’re all in a rush to get to the airport. Right? How inconvenient is it to walk through a hotel with luggage in tow and a hot styling in hand?

Since all of us combined are the “Great Towel Thief” maybe we should all confess our sins at the local precinct!

That’s a dilemma for all of us and there is a legal and inexpensive way to solve this problem. Read some of my other blogs to find out the answer. :-)

Most of us use heated tools when we’re in a rush to style our hair. The convenience of styling our hair quickly is a great time saver.

If you caren’t in a rush, consider giving your hair a vacation from this ever-repeating process. If you’re like me, I find myself styling my hair in the morning, at the gym and before I go out at night. That’s three times a day, which is a lot of heat for anyone’s hair.

As often as I can, I pull out the old fashioned rollers and hair dryer. This technique is much healthier because the set lasts four days, in my case. Instead of styling three times a day, I have a four day vacation for my hair. Yabba Dabba Doo!

I received an order from a new customer recently. The customer went to a beauty supply store in Boulder, Colorado. She was disappointed that she couldn’t find the Hotty Hoody - Cool Sleeve at her local store. This is what she said:

“I called them yesterday & told them I was in there on wed. looking for this product & found nothing. I gave them your nameĀ and numberĀ . I also told them that as far as I could see they would be the only place in the Denver/Boulder front range area that would have any thing like it & how foolish not to check into the product. Glad they contacted you.”

If you can’t find the product in your local store, just ask them to go to www.hottyhoody.com

I’m always happy to work for a new customer. :-)

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me, my beauty starts with the way I feel about myself. I can go natural with my hair and I just don’t like the way it looks. It doesn’t matter how many other people say that I look beautiful, I just don’t feel pretty.

Women must have more in common than most people think. The woman who doesn’t have to do anything to her hair and feels beautiful is just like me. The operative word is how do you feel about the way you look? If you feel beautiful, you’ll be beautiful.

For those women who like to style their hair to feel beautiful (count me in) the styling tool is a magic wand. It’s great to know that we can create whatever “look” we want for a given day. We can go curly, straight, wavy, or wild.

I guess you could say that beauty is in the way you behold yourself.

I read a fascinating article, on the “Wired” website today, called “From Salon to Salad: Human Hair Makes Good Plant Fertilizer” and it provided me with food for thought. No pun intended, of course. :-)

The premise of the article is that human hair when decomposed, provides a good source of nitrogen for plants. The hair, since it doesn’t decompose quickly enough, should be mixed with other quick-acting fertilizers.

Does this mean we should bring a baggie with us to the hair-salon, gather our hair, and bring it back to our science lab at home?

How delightful!

Salad Anyone???

Does your daughter use styling tools? If not, are you considering letting your daughter use them? If the answer to either of these questions is “yes” than read on, because there are some important considerations for you to ponder.

If you style your daughters hair for her and take precautions to ensure that the tools are put away safely, then your concerns should be minor. If, however, your daughter styles her own hair and puts her irons away, then you do have some serious concerns.

Most children are not as cautious as adults and when they use a styling tool they may be playing with fire, literally. Your girl could be using her styling tool on the bed, texting or talking on the phone while styling, or maybe is just plain careless when she sets the tool down. If you haven’t discussed the safety issues of using styling tools with her, I’d politely suggest that you do so ASAP.

Her bed, with linen and pillows, is a firetrap waiting to happen. She can burn herself seriously if she doesn’t focus on styling. Depending on how she sets the tool down can determine whether someone bumps into a hot iron or whether the tool falls on the carpet or near something else that’s flammable.

Using a product such as the Hotty Hoody - Cool Sleeve can eliminate most of your worry, but nothing will prevent accidental burns when a child is not focused.

Take some precautions now, discuss these consideration with her and she’ll be less susceptible to a minor or tragic accident.

I’d love to hear from you! Do you have a story that’s related to this or one of my other postings? If so, please feel free to leave a comment.
